Grêmio head coach Renato Gaúcho says he has all but given up hope of Luis Suárez remaining at the Brazilian club, as the striker prepares for a likely move to MLS franchise Inter Miami.

Suárez “already has plans”, Gaúcho says

“It will take a miracle [for Suárez to stay],” Gaúcho told reporters after the Uruguayan’s goal gave Grêmio a 1-0 Brazilian Série A win over Bahia on Saturday.

“He already has plans for 2024. He made that clear a few months ago and I’m not expecting a miracle.

“It’s his decision: I’d like him to stay, but we have to be honest with our fans. If he ends up staying, it’ll be a miracle, and that miracle comes down to him.”

Amid pessimism at Grêmio over Suárez’s future, AS understands that Inter Miami are making plans to welcome the 36-year-old to Florida in December, ahead of the start of the 2024 MLS season early next year.

In Miami, the two-time European Golden Shoe winner would be reunited with former Barcelona team-mates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
