Sergio needs to start putting better if he’s to contend over the weekend.
He was pretty downbeat when I interviewed him after his round and after finishing his media duties, he snapped his putter over his knee and deposited it in the nearest bin!
The Spaniard is by no means out of the equation, with his Friday 71 leaving him -3 overall and in T27 position.
That leaves him five shots off Kevin Na’s -8 lead but he’ll need to improve on the greens if he’s going to get near that.
33/1 – Sergio Garcia to win
As with Thursday, it was a bit of a mixed bag for Tiger but he’s grinding as hard as ever and said to me that with such a bunched leaderboard, anyone who makes the cut can still win this.
At even par, he’s got quite a bit of work to do over the weekend to put himself in the frame come Sunday.
150/1 – Tiger Woods to win
There was an anonymous survey carried out with PGA Tour players recently, with the majority citing Ian Poulter and Rickie Fowler as the most overrated players on tour.
There’s been lots of media reaction here and Fowler has answered the questions with his usual class.
You do feel he’s got a point to prove though and I definitely think Rickie will be a factor this weekend.
8/1 – Ricky Fowler to win
I’m also hoping Jim Furyk can maintain his challenge over the weekend.
I liked his chances before the tournament began – he lives here, knows the course well and has fared well here in the past.
Back-to-back 70s puts him 4 under and he’s definitely in with a chance going into the final 2 days.
18/1 – Jim Furyk
Henrik Stenson got himself back in this with a second round 69; the Swede loves this event and I hope he pushes on over the weekend.
22/1 – Henrik Stenson
It’s a wide open tournament and we are set for a weekend shootout.
There’s also a lot of inexperience and surprise names at the top of the leaderboard. No one predicted Kevin Na and Jerry Kelly would be leading through 36 holes!
There’s still 36 more to play though and it’s all to play for.
